The image depicts the Transfiguration of Jesus. Jesus is in the center, radiating light, symbolizing his divine glory. The prophets Elijah and Moses are on either side of Jesus. Below, the apostles Peter, James, and John are shown reacting to the transfiguration. The event reveals Christ's divinity and foreshadows his resurrection. 

The Transfiguration is commemorated on August 6 in the Orthodox Church.
